Shocking Truth behind Keto Scam?

Shocking Truth behind Keto Scam?

There is a lot of focus on a new twist in diets today called the “Keto Diet.”  Advocates for the diet say it uses the body’s own fat burning abilities to help people lose enormous amounts of fat in as little as 10 days.

Critics are saying there are huge health risks in this diet and it is to be avoided at all cost.  Speaking of cost, critics go on to say if you want to waste your money then by all means jump right in on this one.

In this multi-part series I’m going to explore the inner most workings of the keto diet.  Furthermore, I’m even going to subject myself to the diet.  I will publish updates to this blog series for all of my readers so you can get the experience of what the real keto diet is all about up close & first hand.

What is a ketogenic diet?

The ketogenic diet is a low or no carbohydrate diet that forces the body into a state of ketosis.  During this process the body begins to break down stored body fat for energy by releasing ketones into the bloodstream.  From that process, most cells then use the ketone bodies for energy.

Because the diet lacks the use of carbohydrates, a ketogenic diet is rich with proteins & fats.  It typically includes several meats, eggs, cheeses, nuts, butter, oils & fibrous vegetables.

Joe Rogan

The funniest thing is, Joe Rogan said it perfectly, & I paraphrase: "the ketogenic diet isn't for everyone, it has to do with your genetics."

Here's the deal.

I happen to KNOW my body loves carbs. All kinds. And when I cut down for the 8-pack, genetically I do NOT  need to cut many carbs. I have the classic Ectomorph body-type.

Getting Started

I love fitness in all respects. Power-lifting, gymnastics, yoga, MMA, bodybuilding, etc. As a Personal Trainer, I want to get my own hands on experience with the keto diet to find out if in fact it can support a healthy lifestyle.

Specifically: can you support a fitness lifestyle from it? That is, lifting weights 3 days per week, 1 hour each, with 20 minutes of cardio attached... minimum.

My plan over the next several months is to put keto to a test.  I will follow the guidelines of the diet, modified slightly to support my bodybuilder lifestyle & will share my results along the way.

Research the Diet

There is a lot of studies performed on diets & their potential to support weight loss.  The keto diet is no exception to this.  Media hype has references from any number of Journals of Medicine & dietitian blog’s are running rampant.  All to explain how bad this diet is for your body’s overall heath & well-being.

In my readings and research, I’m stepping out to make the following assumption.  Keto diet is great for cutting body fat, but is horrible for the other 99% of life.

As I said, I plan to use this diet regime as a cutting diet to get my body back in shape.  However, there are many reasons this diet should not be considered for long term use.

Carb reduction over a long period of time, reduces the amount of water in your body & will has immediate GI tract side effects such as constipation & increases the risk of potential GI cancers. Over time the body enters a starvation mode which severely impairs the body’s ability to lose weight much less gain muscle.  One researcher even goes so far as to say that that keto should only be considered in extreme cases and only under medical supervision.

I smell the Atkins diet.

Version 2.0.

Except, this one is a double-edged sword. Any medical professional worth their salt will tell you what's really going on, but I'm going to leave that one up to later.

To support a bodybuilder lifestyle I’m going to find out first hand how well the keto diet will work to support my return to top physical condition.  Those who’ve followed my blogs before will know me as extreme.  From my knowledge & expertise I think this diet can work well for cutting body fat while keeping muscle definition.

However for long term weight loss programs & for the majority of my clients, I cannot see his diet fad lasting.
